We bought our Contest 48CS in beginning of July 2020 in Plymouth, UK and sailed her to the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Mediterranean, back to the Canary Islands, down to Cape Verde, across the Atlantic Ocean, up and down the windward islands of the Caribbean and are currently in the BVIs.
She is a very seaworthy vessel, well-equipped for ocean crossings and an off-grid life.
Adhara has a wing keel, a skeg-protected rudder, an in-mast hydraulic furling mainsail, a massive genoa, a smaller gib sail, and a beautiful spinnaker. The mast has been newly repainted in 2021.
A reliable 135HP Sabre Perkins engine and a robust Autopilot system. This boat is high-quality and well-equipped, ready to take offshore.
2 x 355W Solar installation, a 4KW Generator (new in 2020, only 200h), and a watermaker that runs off the Lithium Batteries (2X 300 ah LifePo4) allow true off-grid living. The cozy interior of the boat has enough space for a couple or a small family.
New Raymarine navigation, radar, VHF, and AIS.

Designed by Dick Zaal and Georg Nissen and built in Medemblik at Contest Yachts Shipyard in the Netherlands, the Contest 48CS is designed for blue water cruising. She was built to Llyods standards from wood cored GRP in 1998. In total 64 of these boats were built and Adhara is No 15. All original manuals on board!
For us, the most attractive features besides the center cockpit and the very solid construction are the raised cockpit salon (CS), longitudinal galley and large headspace down below, and the amazing master stateroom. We also like that she is cutter (two foresails) rigged and we can carry our dinghy on davits at the back. We even have a dedicated workbench for the inevitable repair works, which is very useful and we haven’t seen it on other 48CS models so far. The previous owner stripped the worn teak deck and we’re very happy about the maintenance free Awlgrip non-skid deck!
